Updated two pages with DTDs
reflecting adherence to HTML 4.01 which allows percentage values for table cell
widths. Except for this pedantry, the only thing worth noting is the summary
below, somewhat of a eulogy.
I am very much a Mac user now, easing into the new
platform beginning in 1999, when I finally had enough of the TT's limited speed
-- notably for image-editing and the web -- and realized that faster TOS
computers were not coming to North America. At this time Apple had drastically
reduced prices to clear out old stock, so I bought a factory refurbished
PowerMac 6500: 300MHz, 64MB, SCSI, Zip, all in a nice tower.
Initially dependent on both machines, I have reached
the point where Calamus is the only program yet to be replaced on the Mac.
(Quark is too expensive and there is so much time invested in Calamus.) It was
not so much finding equivalent software on the Mac, but the time it took to
feel comfortable with both the OS and the applications themselves. Because of
these factors, the site has become somewhat retro for me, almost
nostalgic, no longer a true reflection of my computer time.
With the TT being used as a Calamus workstation, the
site's subtitle is still applicable. However, no further updates are planned.
Looking back I am most proud that TOS software was used, something that can not
be said for the majority of Atari sites today, and that people continue to
visit (or stumble upon) these pages in numbers I find surprising (almost 20,000
hits to date). |
