Port Mann 1968

An aerial view of Port Mann taken in 1968 when the yard was in the final stages of a major expansion. The close-up view from the same photograph shows the CN station (at mile 114.9, orphaned from the new main line) and townsite. To the right, directly in back of the station -- which would disappear in the 1970's -- is the main line, today known as PF00 (or "the old main") and used as a high-capacity speedy repair track. CN's current main line, double-tracked and known as Thornton Bypass, cuts through the long-gone townsite, baseball field and transformer yard of the Port Mann gas turbine power plant (whose massive building is now a movie studio).
