Port Mann is home to these two EMD E-units, used for special excursion trains by CN executives and their guests. Both were originally built for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q), a Great Northern subsidiary that formed part of Burlington Northern in 1970. Rebuilt in the early 1970's in BN livery, the units were retired in 1992 after serving Chicago's METRA commuter rail system. Illinois Central, now part of Canadian National, purchased the units in 1996 and based them in Woodcrest, Illinois. CN 102 (formerly CB&Q 9940A, BN 9940, BN/METRA 9903) was built in 1950 as an E8A; CN 103 (formerly CB&Q 9986A, BN 9986, BN/METRA 9916), in 1955 as an E9A. With the rebuild in the 1970's, both units were modified as E9AMs. |
