Coquihalla Canyon

Coquihalla Canyon

Six miles from the Hope, the Coquihalla River cuts through the narrow canyon of the Coquihalla on the Canadian Pacific's Kettle Valley Railway, an area originally surveyed by the Great Northern. The GN ran a special train from Vancouver to Princeton through here with Louis Hill, company president, and other officials on September 27, 1916 -- the only GN train to use the line. On August 3, 1917, GN officials -- notably future president Ralph Budd -- rode the line again, on a private car attached to a KVR freight. It is almost certain that decisions were made then about the future of the line, one that would not see any GN traffic.
