A 1918 CNoR passenger time table, however, lists New Westminster 0.5 miles from Fraser River Jct. which was the correct distance and matches GNR time tables. ** GNR and CNoR time tables from 1918 show the distance from Cannor to Hope as 36.6 and 36.7 miles respectively. The new Vancouver GNR station, built on what was formerly False Creek, opened in mid-1917 and shortened the main line to the former Pender Street station by 0.7 miles. Initially the GNR built along the marshy southern shore of False Creek on a number of trestles, but the area was filled by 1914 as worked progressed on reclaiming the eastern part for the GNR and CNoR. By late 1916 much of shallow waters shown on the map had already been filled. The GNR also had running rights on their former right-of-way between Fraser River Jct. and Port Kells Jct., which was sold to the CNoR in 1916. The GNR stopped using this section in 1919 when the line from Hazelmere to Port Kells was abandoned. The distance from Spokane to Vancouver on the GNR's main line and the Pacific Coast line was 495 miles. Through-service between Spokane and Vancouver never occurred on the Vancouver, Victoria & Eastern Railway since the section from Hope to Princeton was never used for passenger service even though it appeared in GNR time tables. And besides seasonal ice trains to Tulameen, beginning in 1918, the GNR never used their line west of Princeton except for erratic service to Coalmont from 1912 to 1915. Only the Kettle Valley Railway (CPR) would operate trains between Hope and Princeton. Total GNR main line passenger trackage in the Fraser Valley in February 1917: 71.7 Vancouver to Cannor (including Dominion right-of-way on Fraser River Bridge and New Westminster) 11.4 Colebrook to boundary at Blaine, WA 9.8 Guichon to Guichon Line Jct. 3.6 Abbotsford to boundary at Sumas, WA 11.5 Port Kells Jct. to Hazelmere (New Westminster Southern Railway) 0.2 Hope 8.9 Fraser River Jct. to Port Kells Jct. GNR lines in British Columbia abandoned by February 1917: Kaslo & Slocan Railway: Sold in 1911, at one time the narrow-guage line had 28.2 miles of main line passenger trackage from Kaslo to Sandon. Bedlington & Nelson Railway: Abandoned in 1916, the 6.8-mile line ran from the boundary at Port Hill, ID to Creston. Initially the line also ran 5.3 miles from Creston to Creston Jct. (Wilkes); then 8.7 miles of CPR running rights to Sirdar Jct.; then 2.9 miles to the GNR station at Kuskonook and another 0.3 miles to the wharf on Kootenay Lake. Therefore, 24.0 miles of former main line passenger trackage including CPR rights. Although not officially abandoned by 1917, the New Westminster Southern Railway from Hazelmere to the boundary at Douglas had no passenger service. This section, on the former main line of the Pacific Coast line, was now an active logging branch. At the other end, at former South Westminster, the NWSR below Fraser River Jct. had another 0.7 miles of former main line trackage. Therefore, 3.7 miles of former main line passenger trackage. Total GNR main line passenger trackage in British Columbia including abandoned lines: 587.4 miles (473.8 miles without rights).
